Human action without #ethics is at the heart of #toxicculture. This represents a #culturerisk to communities, families, organizations and workplaces.
An article titled "Don't Take It Personally" Is Terrible Work Advice, published by Harvard Business Review makes this same point.
“Not taking it personally” lies at the heart of many #ethics scandals, from embezzling and accounting fraud to issues of worker safety and environmental protection. It’s when executives and teams adopt the mindless notion of “it’s not personal, it’s business” that they absolve themselves of their responsibilities as social actors, custodians of the planet, and guardians of the well-being of their employees, customers, and communities.
Since the beginning of western civilization we have known that human beings are social beings, that we are designed for human connection. Healthy human connection helps us flourish as individuals and communities. Toxic human connection harms human well being and undermines community. For this reason, the study of ethics was impossible to divorce from the study of politics, community building and organizational development.
To this end, every major religion has also echoed this ancient truth: Treat Your Neighbour As You Wish To Be Treated
