Much of our discouragement comes from the way we think, our habits and patterns of thinking which can be inaccurate (cognitive distortions), counterproductive and downright harmful to yourself and others.
This is where self-compassion comes it. Self-compassion doesn't just mean self-care or pampering yourself. It includes honouring your innate value, unique gifts and talents and finding ways to best bring these to use in serving others, increasing wellbeing and minimizing suffering for yourself and others.
And remember these fine words by Joseph Campbell:
The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.
Be you. Don't give up.
This is so true. I have experienced all of these at one time and also separately.
This is so lovely. Self-compassion is hard to find in the municipal realm where we are dedicated to serving others, to improving our community, and-unfortunately-where we are held to impossible and often illogical standards by the public.
its so odd that i can experience all of these feelings so intently yet still i persist. hope and collaboration are certainly there too, to be shared, bigger than me, overflowing the limits
Thank you for this. This year has been so tough and i have felt like giving up many many times. Sometimes even thought of ending my life- not in a real way I don't think - just wanted to be out fo here in some way. Self-compassion is so key.
