An important message for all, but especially for the “religious” who too often fail to set a good example. How many churches are destroyed by rumour-mongering pastors and congregation members?
Trying to put others down through gossip and slander has no lasting benefit. You are seen as desperate, petty and untrustworthy and your legacy becomes one of destroying friendships and breaking apart the social solidarity/unity/safety that is necessary for genuine community. People cannot flourish in such environments.
💡Proverbs 11:9 With their mouths the godless destroy their neighbours, but through knowledge the righteous escape.
💡Leviticus 19:16 Do not go about spreading slander among your people. Do not do anything that endangers your neighbours life. I am the Lord.
💡James 1:26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight reign on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.
💡Exodus 23:1 Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness.
🙏You don’t need to be Catholic to agree with the Pope’s lament of “modern society inundated with empty words where people insult each other as if they were saying ‘Good Day.’” Or last year’s edict to “give up gossip and hypocritical condemnation of others.”
